$8 million - $9 million = $25 million
From the life of one generous woman, Irene Rothgerber, thousands of lives are touched. Every year, Irene's fund feeds hungry families, houses the homeless, aids the sick, preserves natural beauty, and educates children.
The Irene Rothgerber Fund is invested with the Foundation's other funds, and generates income to give away. To date, the fund has already given away $9 million to hundreds of local nonprofit organizations -- causes that Irene cared about so deeply. Even decades after her life, she continues to help those in need in our community. And her philanthropy will live on forever.
This is the power of an endowment. Irene's original gift in 1985 was $8 million. About $9 million has been given away to date. And the total value of the fund is worth $25 million today. Now that's some amazing math!

1. Bequest of cash
"I bequeath the sum of $10,000 to The Denver Foundation of Denver, CO."
2. Bequest of a percent of the estate
"I devise and bequeath 20% of the remainder and residue of property owned at my death, whether real or personal, and wherever located to The Denver Foundation, Denver, CO."
3. Contingent Bequest
"If my brother John Doe survives me, I devise and bequeath 20% of the remainder and residue of property owned at my death, whether real or personal, and wherever located to John Doe. If John Doe does not survive me, then I devise and bequeath 20% of my residuary estate, whether real or personal property and wherever located to The Denver Foundation, Denver, CO."
